We're getting wet for charity

Posted: 3rd April, 2018

Our charity committee is excited to announce that this year's company-wide fundraising event is the Salford Dragon Boat Race, taking place on Sunday 20th May at Salford Quays. Our teams of 16-or-so paddlers will participate in three qualifying races over the 180 metres of Ontario Dock. Teams with the fastest times will then battle it out for the winners' medals in the Grand Final.

Our chosen charity is Anthony Nolan, a trust set up in 1974 to match blood stem and bone marrow donors to people with blood cancer or blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants. Anthony Nolan now helps three people each day to find that lifesaving match.

The reason we've designated this worthy charity as our beneficiary is because we sadly lost our long-serving Director, Peter Dye, to blood cancer earlier this year. Peter worked with Quill almost since the company was conceived some 40 years ago. And the reason we've chosen this particular event is that, upon his retirement, Peter and his wife, Jane, spent their newly freed up time sailing from Ipswich to the Mediterranean, visiting many far-flung places on their yacht, Bluejay.

Peter's wife, Jane Dye, comments: "What a lovely idea to support the charity that gives aid to people with the illness which tragically took Peter's life. Our family is really touched that you're raising money for Anthony Nolan. We're also pleased that you're doing something that was
Peter's passion in life - sailing. You're mixing water with a very, very good cause. I'm sure you'll all end up drenched by the end of the day but it'll be well worth it. Your charity event will, ultimately, help save people's lives. I feel humbled by Quill's backing. I'm absolutely certain that Peter would have felt just the same. We wish the Quill team every success in the Dragon Boat Races. Thanks to you all."

Please pledge what you can here to assist our fundraising efforts. Every £1 donated makes a huge difference. If you're able, do come along on the day and cheer us on. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
